Workshops for clinicians

The mental health field is still lacking in culturally-sensitive tips and techniques when servicing immigrant-origin individuals and families. Through my workshop, participants will:

  • Reflect as clinicians on our own biases and assumptions about this population
  • Gain an understanding of several unique mental health factors impacting immigrants and their kids
  • Learn techniques for facilitating cultural brokering for immigrant-origin individuals and families
  • Discuss common Westernized perspectives that are posited in our field and explore ways to embrace their culturally sensitive counterparts to show up with more multicultural competence in the room
  • Explore how culture, intergenerational experiences, barriers, and support seeking behavior impact our work with this population
  • Takeaway specific interventions and techniques to utilize for working with this population, and learn how to encourage cultural confidence in clients
